Top tips when planning a trip to New York

New York has always been a dream of mine, I have always wanted to go at Christmas time. So when I received the best birthday present from Mr W last year, I was very excited and instantly got planning.

Here are my top tips:

Invest in a Pass

This is merely dependant on how many tourist attractions or activities you want to do and how long you plan to be in New York. We decided to go for the New York Pass, there are other options to consider (Explorer and City Passes) but this work best for us. We brought a 3 day pass which worked out much cheaper than paying for the attractions individually. There is a comparison website which I used to compare the 3 passes.

We ordered the New York Pass online and collected from Madame Tussauds when we arrived in New York. The pass comes with an guide book too – added bonus. I have put the link below incase this is something you want to consider.

Ensure you have your ESTA (Visa)

You need to ensure you have your ESTA before you can gain entry into America, without this you may be denied entry.

Dinner Reservations

I soon discovered that I could only make dinner reservations between 4-6 weeks in advance. Most reservations can be made through open table. If you have a particular restaurant in mind please book.

Download a New York map from Google maps

I downloaded the Google maps app on my iPhone, I searched for New York,  then tapped the menu and selected ‘Offline maps’  then select ‘Custom map’. You can then zoom in/out to choose the area of New York you want to be available, then select download. Once you have this map you can search for areas of interest and save the location, which is then available offline so you don’t have to rely upon free Wifi locations or expensive Cellular Data to navigate.

This map proved very useful when we were exploring New York as we could see our location and what was around us that we wanted to visit.

Last things to mention…..

Ensure you wear comfy shoes if your exploring, New York is amazing and you can explore for hours. Always remember your travel adaptor and of course US Dollars!
